We are pleased to now be offering self funded semen analysis testing at our clinics by appointment only . Patients do not require a GP referral for this service; you can just book an appointment yourself.
Who may want to a semen analysis test ?
Many factors can affect sperm quality and there are several reasons people may wish to have their sperm tested. Sometimes they may not be considering a family yet but just wish to know the quality of their sperm and check it is healthy. Other reasons include:
- Wanting to check their sperm count following the use of medication or treatment for an illness
- Following diagnosis of a varicocele
- Following steroid use
- Age related curiosity
- Following a vasectomy procedure or reversal
- General interest in their sperm count, shape and mobility
- They may be a same sex couple who are seeking fertility treatment overseas
- When considering use of egg donor (some egg banks require this)
How does a patient book a self-funded Semen Analysis appointment?
Testing is by appointment only. Patients are required to contact the patient navigator team on 0151 702 4121 (option 5). Results will be provided directly to patients via telephone by a Clinical Andrologist within 7 days.
What will happen at this appointment?
The patient will be invited to attend one of two sites (Liverpool or Knutsford) and meet with the andrology team. Depending on where the patient lives and distance from the clinic venues, the patient will be asked to provide a semen sample from home and take it to the unit with them, or they can provide the sample once onsite in the private and discreet production room.
What is the cost of this care package?
This cost is £250 - this includes the appointment, test analysis and a telephone follow up call to discuss the results with a Clinical Andrologist. Copies of results will also be available via email.
