This week The Hewitt Fertility Centre has received the wonderful news that the Diagnostic Andrology Service has received UKAS accreditation for the fifth year in a row.
The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the national accreditation body for the United Kingdom, appointed by government, to assess organisations that provide certification, testing; and inspection and calibration services.
The Hewitt Fertility Centre was assessed on their Diagnostic Andrology Service in May 2019, and this week received the UKAS Maintenance of Accreditation. This was not for the first time, the centre has been assessed for the past five years and have each year been granted accreditation, making the Hewitt Fertility Centre Diagnostic Andrology Service one of the furthest advanced laboratories nationally.
Stephanie Brooks, Senior Biomedical Andrologist said "I’m very proud of our team; following all the hard work it is great to receive news that we have achieved this accreditation once again. Huge well done to all involved.
I am looking forward to shouting about our great success at the IBMS national conference, where I will be presenting and talking about how to achieve and maintain UKAS accreditation for Diagnostic Andrology."
The Diagnostic Andrology Service has been dedicated to assessing male fertility for those living in the northwest since 1995. They host a dedicated space for patients to maintain privacy and dignity in a sometimes difficult area of fertility assessment. The Andrology department has become the ‘expert’ laboratory in the northwest (and nationally) with regards to many areas of male fertility and more recently offering support to other laboratories working towards UKAS accreditation.
The UKAS accreditation covers all four of the Hewitt Fertility Centre sites including Liverpool, Knutsford, Leighton and Ormskirk.
The andrology service performs fertility assessments whereby the semen is examined to assess if the male partner has fertility issues that could lead to difficulties in achieving a pregnancy (diagnostic semen analysis), and post vasectomy analysis (the testing of semen to ensure that a vasectomy operation has been successful and reassurance that no further pregnancies could be achieved. The andrology service also provides sperm storage facilities for those who need to preserve their fertility prior to chemotherapy or surgery.
Well done to all of The Hewitt Fertility Team especially all involved in this accreditation.
