This year marks the 40th anniversary of the first ever successful IVF treatment in the UK and the world. To mark the occasion, The Hewitt Fertility Centre - part of Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust - is hosting a special event.

The two part event will comprise of a celebration afternoon tea, where patients from the entire 29 year history of The Hewitt Fertility Centre are invited to join us for a day of celebration. There will also be an open day, as part of the same event, for people who are interested in finding out more about their own fertility and how the life changing work the Hewitt Fertility Centre does could help them.

Andrew Drakeley, Clinical Director of the Hewitt Fertility Centre, said: "Here at The Hewitt Fertility Centre, nothing gives us more pleasure than seeing the legacy of our work. Speaking with our past patients and seeing how our treatments have had such a positive effect on their lives as well as meeting the children, and now some adults, who came into the world as a result of IVF carried out at our clinic fills us with a sense of pride and determination to continue our work.

"Bringing many of our previous patients together to celebrate this momentous anniversary as well as giving many other people an opportunity to start their journey with us towards their dream of becoming parents, will make this a very special day and the whole of the Hewitt team is looking forward to it."

The Hewitt Fertility Centre has been at the centre of fertility treatment in the North West for almost 30 years, helping those who are having trouble with conceiving to overcome their issues and achieve their dream of building a family.

The Hewitt’s team of experts originally started providing fertility treatment in 1989, based in The Royal Liverpool Hospital. The Hewitt Fertility Centre itself was later officially established after relocating to the Liverpool Women’s Foundation Trust in 1995 and has been there ever since. Another centre in Knutsford was also established five years ago and between both locations the Hewitt Fertility Centre serves the whole of the North West and beyond.

The Hewitt Fertility Centre treats thousands of couples every year and is one of the largest and most successful clinics of its type in the UK. This anniversary is of particular significance to the Hewitt Fertility Centre as Dr Jonathan Hewitt, one of the founders of the centre which would later be renamed in his honour, worked in partnership with Dr Robert Edwards - one of the two men credited with the very first successful IVF treatment back in 1978.

The celebration event and open day take place on Sunday 8th July 2018 at the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool One. Previous patients of the Hewitt Centre and potential new patients are welcome at the afternoon tea and open day respectively.

We are delighted but also regretful to announce the 'afternoon tea' event is now fully booked. Places are still currently available for the 'open day' follow the link to find out more about the event and to book your free place.
